The EU2014 conference ‘International, Intersectoral, and Interdisciplinary: the triple “i” approach to doctoral training’ will take place in the city of  Padua from 20 to 21 November 2014, under the auspices of the Italian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

It is organised by the Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research, in collaboration with the University of Padova and the University of Camerino, and with the expert advice of the EUA-Council for Doctoral Education.

The participants will gather for one-and-a-half days at the premises of the University of Padova, in the beautiful historical building Palazzo Bo located downtown Padua to explore international networking, intersectoral mobility and interdisciplinarity as fundamental approaches to doctoral training and why they are considered essential to enhance career opportunities of  young researchers in the global market and to reach the benefits of employing creative workers with high professional expectations.

A large audience from across Europe and beyond will address key issues related to the conference themes, such us:

  • how to strengthen the international dimension of doctoral programmes and research training through improved cooperation with partner organisations in other world region;
  • how implementation of industrial doctorates can have an impact on industrial innovation and doctorate holders’ employment;
  • how interdisciplinarity in doctoral education contributes in enhancing career opportunities.

The Principles for Innovative Doctoral Training (PIDT),  although designed to be as general and ‘sector neutral’ as possible,  were generated having in mind the standard typology of Higher Education & Research Institution, i.e. the Universities. Considering the heterogeneous landscape of higher education institutions focused on Arts, can the PIDT plainly be applied to doctoral training in the Arts?
